Productivity hack

Neuroscientists have deemed the following strategy an absolute game-changer to working longer and getting more done.

It's called the 'One More' premise

The "One More" approach is about pushing yourself to complete just one more task when you're ready to quit. Instead of stopping when you feel like you're done, challenge yourself to do "just one more" of whatever you're working on.

For instance, if I'm working on my business and feel like stopping, I’ll tell myself to write "just one more paragraph." This strategy offers several key benefits:

  • You infinitely build your discipline over the long-term as your “stopping point” will constantly be pushed forward.

  • You get more work done than you would have otherwise.

  • There is a great chance that you will work past the “one more __” that you set for yourself, as you will have gained momentum and thoughts of what to do next.

This is the same strategy that you use for procrastination.

The same way you tell yourself “just one more game” or “just one more post,” and end up doing much more, you can do this with your other tasks too, “just one more rep,” “just one more page,” “just one more minute.”

Why this works

This technique works so well because of the "Foot-in-the-Door" principle in psychology. Once you’ve started an activity, it becomes much easier to keep going.

When someone commits to even a small task, they often feel driven to continue to maintain a sense of consistency. By agreeing to something minor, it becomes more likely they'll take on a larger task afterward to stay on track and meet their own expectations.
